St. Joseph’s University, Long Island rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Baruch College, 3-2, Thursday night at the Danzi Center Gym in Patchogue. The Golden Eagles opened the match with a 25-15 victory before edging Baruch 26-24 in the second set, but the Bearcats responded by taking the third set 25-23 and the fourth 25-19 to force a decisive fifth set.
St. Joseph’s saved its best volleyball for the final set, hitting .462 while committing just one attack error on 13 attempts. The Golden Eagles pulled away for a 15-8 victory to complete the comeback. Nina Vanderhoof led St. Joseph’s with 10 kills, while Sarah Hansen added eight kills and hit .350. Isabella Juliano contributed six kills and six service aces, while Brooke Schoppmeyer was dominant from the service line with a match-high 10 aces.
Schoppmeyer also anchored the Golden Eagles defensively with 25 digs, while Hazel Parante added 14. Olivia Baumann recorded 32 assists and 12 digs in the victory. As a team, St. Joseph’s finished with 38 kills, 20 aces and 82 digs, overcoming Baruch’s 42 kills and nine blocks to improve to 2-1 on the season.
