William Paterson swept St. Joseph’s University Long Island 3-0 in a non-conference women’s volleyball match Tuesday afternoon at the Sports and Recreation Center in Wayne, N.J. The Pioneers opened their season with a decisive victory, taking the sets 25-15, 25-14 and 25-22 while the Golden Eagles fell to 0-1.
William Paterson dominated the attack throughout, finishing with 44 kills on a .313 hitting percentage compared to St. Joseph’s 17 kills and .041 efficiency. Riley Elliott paced the Pioneers with 12 kills, while Emeli Giesler added nine and Makayda Aldrich contributed six kills and three blocks. Taylor Grady distributed 16 assists and Bella Demers led the defense with 13 digs. For the Golden Eagles, Isabella Ruehle recorded a team-high five kills, Isabella Nieradko added four, and Olivia Baumann paced the offense and defense with 11 assists and nine digs.
The Pioneers controlled the tempo from the start, limiting St. Joseph’s to just five kills in the opening set and six in the second. St. Joseph’s made a stronger push in the third set but could not overcome William Paterson’s balanced attack and serving pressure, which produced eight aces. The Golden Eagles will look to bounce back Saturday when they host Brooklyn College.
