Sarah Lawrence Sweeps Vassar

Sarah Lawrence opened its 2026 season with a clean 3-0 sweep of Vassar on Tuesday evening at Kenyon Hall in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The Gryphons took the match by set scores of 25-21, 25-17 and 25-23, improving to 1-0 while the Brewers fell to 0-1.

Caroline Combs led Sarah Lawrence with a match-high 15 kills on .333 hitting and added four service aces. Nikolet Vataj contributed seven kills, while Sophia Costa ran the offense with 29 assists. The Gryphons were especially strong at the net, recording nine blocks (led by Olivia Richard and Charlee Leonard with five each) compared to Vassar’s two. Kai Perkins anchored the defense with 17 digs as Sarah Lawrence hit .256 as a team.

Vassar was paced by Erin Lovett with 11 kills and Holland Kaplan with nine. Francesca Medrano distributed 28 assists, but the Brewers struggled with efficiency, finishing with a .066 team hitting percentage and 26 attack errors. Sarah Lawrence controlled the tempo throughout and closed out the third set after Vassar pushed it to 23-23.
