SUNY Maritime women's volleyball picked up its first victory of the 2026 season Saturday afternoon, sweeping York College 3-0 at Riesenberg Gymnasium. The Privateers controlled the match from the opening set, earning a 25-19 victory before dominating the final two frames, 25-6 and 25-7. Maritime finished with a .279 hitting percentage while limiting York to a -.148 mark.
Laci Werner led the Privateers with 10 kills, while Addison Weist added seven kills and Emma DeMuro contributed four. Mikaela Thiel directed the offense with 21 assists and also recorded six digs. Ashley Pavarini and Thiel each finished with six service aces, while Xieana Rodriguez added four as Maritime piled up 20 aces as a team.
After York opened the match with a 6-3 advantage, Maritime responded with an 8-0 run and never surrendered control of the first set. The Privateers then took over completely in the second and third frames, holding York to just four total kills across the two sets. Maritime finished with advantages of 29-9 in kills, 26-9 in assists and 28-17 in digs. The victory moved the Privateers to 1-8 on the season.
