St. Joseph’s University Long Island picked up its first win of the 2026 season Tuesday afternoon, edging Brooklyn College 4-3 in a tightly contested non-conference matchup at the Roosevelt Tennis Courts. The Golden Eagles took the doubles point after Rachel Wind and Victoria Arent earned a 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Emily Messana and Kaitlyn Russo added a 6-1 win at No. 3. Brooklyn’s Alexis Goodman and Medina Kuc opened doubles play with a 6-3 win at No. 1.
Brooklyn answered with three straight singles victories to briefly take control of the match. Goodman rallied past Amanda Andree 7-5, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Aniyah James overcame Rachel Wind 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2, and Kuc defeated Kayla Mansfield 7-5, 6-3 at No. 3. With the Bulldogs leading 3-1 overall, St. Joseph’s needed to win the final three singles matches to secure the team victory.
The Golden Eagles delivered in the decisive matches. Amanda Barile defeated Amara Stewart 7-5, 6-1 at No. 4, Victoria Arent handled Kristen Vega 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5, and Kaitlyn Russo completed the comeback with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Tiffany Edwards at No. 6. The result moved St. Joseph’s Long Island to 1-2 on the season, while Brooklyn fell to 0-3.
