Purchase Defeated St. Joseph's

St. Joseph’s University Long Island dropped a 5-2 decision to SUNY Purchase in a Skyline Conference women’s tennis matchup on Sept. 20 at the Purchase tennis courts. Purchase took control early by sweeping all three doubles matches, winning 6-0 at No. 1 doubles and 6-3 at both No. 2 and No. 3. The result moved Purchase to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in Skyline play, while St. Joseph’s fell to 3-3 and 0-1 in conference action.

The Golden Eagles responded by winning three of the six singles matches. Rachel Wind provided St. Joseph’s with its most dramatic singles victory, rallying past Katelin Smith at No. 2 singles, 1-6, 7-5, 10-7. Victoria Arent also earned a straight-set victory at No. 5, defeating Alyssa Muschenick 6-3, 6-3, while Kaitlyn Russo battled Sadie Killbrew to a third-set tiebreak before falling 7-6, 4-6, 10-8 at No. 6.

Purchase won the remaining three singles matches to secure the team victory. Amelia Perlmutter defeated Amanda Andree 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1, Bianka Grzesik defeated Kayla Mansfield 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3, and Emma Van Dorpe defeated Amanda Barile 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4. Despite the loss, St. Joseph’s showed resilience in singles, with Wind and Arent earning wins and Russo pushing her match to a deciding tiebreak.
