UMSV EDGES PURCHASE

The University of Mount Saint Vincent women's soccer team broke through after halftime Wednesday night, defeating Purchase College 3-0 in a Skyline Conference matchup in Purchase. The teams played to a scoreless draw through the opening 45 minutes, but the Dolphins needed just 54 seconds after the break to take the lead. Kerrigyn Lynam finished a chance set up by Eva Puentes and Marlene Segarra to put UMSV ahead 1-0.

UMSV continued to apply pressure as the second half progressed, doubling its advantage in the 72nd minute. Brittany Boyle headed home a cross from Lily Ostiguy to make it 2-0 before Caroline Gomes added another goal in the 83rd minute, converting a pass from Jazlene Saldana. Lynam finished the match with a team-high 10 shots, while Puentes added eight attempts.

The Dolphins controlled the match statistically, finishing with a commanding 39-4 advantage in shots and an 18-2 edge in shots on goal. UMSV also earned 12 corner kicks without allowing Purchase to record one, while Purchase goalkeeper Jill Creegan kept the Panthers within striking distance with a season-high 15 saves. The victory improved UMSV to 3-3-1 overall and 2-0-1 in Skyline play, while Purchase fell to 0-2-2 overall and 0-1-1 in conference action.
