St. Joseph's Falls to Western Connecticut

St. Joseph’s University, New York – Long Island dropped a tightly contested 1-0 decision to Western Connecticut State University on Sunday afternoon at John A. Danzi Stadium. The Golden Eagles kept WestConn off the scoreboard for most of the opening half despite the Wolves creating consistent pressure, but WestConn eventually broke through in the 43rd minute to take a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

St. Joseph’s continued to battle defensively throughout the second half and created several opportunities of its own while looking for the equalizer. Madison Maher led the Golden Eagles with three shots, while Maddy Jones, Jocelyn Forseth and Gabriela Saravia each recorded a shot on goal. WestConn goalkeeper made three saves to keep St. Joseph’s off the scoreboard.

The Golden Eagles' defense and goalkeeper Kristin Vahle kept the match within reach throughout the afternoon. WestConn finished with an 18-10 advantage in total shots and held an 11-3 edge in shots on goal, but Vahle turned in an impressive performance with 10 saves. St. Joseph’s also earned a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks, but the Golden Eagles were unable to find the equalizer as WestConn held on for the shutout.
