Mount Saint Mary College picked up its first win of the 2026 season Saturday afternoon, defeating Rutgers-Newark 1-0 at Kaplan Field in Newburgh. The Knights controlled much of the opening half and broke through in the 13th minute when Grace Morra finished a pass from Kaitlyn Shotter to give Mount Saint Mary the early lead.
The Knights carried their 1-0 advantage into halftime and continued to create opportunities throughout the second half. Rutgers-Newark increased its offensive pressure after the break, but Mount Saint Mary's defense held firm and protected the lead through the final whistle. Morra's goal marked her first of the season, while Shotter recorded the assist.
Mount Saint Mary finished with a 12-8 advantage in shots and put seven attempts on target compared with just two for Rutgers-Newark. Goalkeeper Julianna Ewashko made two saves to secure the shutout, while Rutgers-Newark's goalkeeper recorded six saves. The Knights also held Rutgers-Newark to four corner kicks while earning two of their own.
