SUNY OLD WESTBURY
Preseason Report 2025
SUNY Old Westbury is coming off a down year finishing 10-14 overall and 5-11 in Skyline Conference play, they were only able to get wins over St. Josephs Brooklyn, SUNY Purchase, Mount Saint Mary’s and The Merchant Marine Academy. These were all teams on the bottom of the conference last season. This season they are bringing in an extremely talented freshman class.
They will still look to their upperclassmen for leadership starting with Joel Oforio who recorded 28 blocks last season and was key to their defense. Another returner is Bradley Young who is an excellent defender and will be key to the team’s leadership. Their freshman class arrives with 4 players who averaged double figure points in high school. Jermaine King Jr who averaged 13.7 points and 5.7 assists will be key to the teams back court this year according to Coach Tomlin. Another key freshman is Imole Akiwale who averaged 12 points 6 assists and 6 rebounds, both were all conference players in their respective high school leagues. They also bring in Latimer Taylor Jr from Charlotte North Carolina who averaged 12.1 points when he was with Providence High School. Lastly, they bring in Christian Thomas from St. Doms High School who was all league and finished the season averaging 14 points.
This team comes into this season as a very young team who will have to get used to the quicker pace of college basketball fast. Luckily, they have a head coach who has been doing this for over 20 years. Coach Bernard Tomlin recently secured his 450th win as a head coach and will look to bring back The Old Westbury Panthers this season. He is very excited about his recruiting class and see’s this team being extremely tough defensively.
McGovern Sports and Media Prediction-
They will have a solid year and make the playoffs.
