St. Joseph’s University Long Island picked up its first Skyline Conference victory of the season Tuesday night, defeating Purchase College, 2-0, on the road. The Golden Eagles controlled the match offensively, recording a 13-11 advantage in shots and putting seven attempts on target compared with just two for Purchase. The victory improved St. Joseph’s to 1-4-2 overall and 1-2-1 in Skyline play, while Purchase dropped to 1-8-1 overall.
Jack Pulisic opened the scoring for St. Joseph’s and finished with a team-high four shots, including one on target. Jack Deutsh also found the back of the net, while Edson Munoz contributed an assist on the second goal. Aidan Bayer added two shots on target, helping the Golden Eagles consistently test the Purchase defense.
St. Joseph’s defense kept Purchase from generating much danger in front of goal, limiting the Panthers to two shots on target. Dean Burchard made two saves to record the clean sheet, while the Golden Eagles also held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks. Purchase's Zion Smith and Jacob Pence each recorded one shot on goal, but neither could break through as St. Joseph's secured the conference road victory.
