Sarah Lawrence opened its 2026 men's soccer season Tuesday night with a 2-0 loss to Albertus Magnus at Celentano Field in New Haven, Connecticut. The Gryphons battled through a scoreless opening half, with goalkeeper Jonah Zalis making several important saves to keep the match even. Sarah Lawrence's best opportunity of the opening 45 minutes came from Ryan Gunderson, who struck the crossbar in the 14th minute before later forcing another chance just before halftime. Albertus Magnus controlled much of the possession and finished the first half with a 9-2 advantage in shots, but the Gryphons entered the break still level at 0-0.
The Falcons finally broke through early in the second half after earning a penalty kick in the 56th minute. Lorenzo Lauria stepped up and converted from the spot to give Albertus Magnus a 1-0 lead. Sarah Lawrence immediately tried to answer, with Matthew Donnis creating a series of chances over the next several minutes. Donnis put one shot on goal that was saved by Albertus goalkeeper Patrick Cavalieri and had another attempt blocked, while the Gryphons continued looking for an equalizer. Zalis also remained busy at the other end, making additional saves to keep Sarah Lawrence within one goal.
Albertus Magnus doubled its advantage in the 68th minute when Casey Rintharamy found the back of the net for his first goal of the season. The Falcons continued to threaten afterward, with Joandry Lopez hitting the crossbar less than two minutes later, but Sarah Lawrence continued to generate opportunities of its own. Gunderson forced another save from Cavalieri in the 80th minute, while Dean Brown tested the Albertus goalkeeper with another late attempt. In the end, Albertus Magnus finished with a 16-7 advantage in shots and 7-3 edge in shots on goal, while Cavalieri recorded three saves to preserve the shutout. Zalis finished with three saves for Sarah Lawrence, which will look to bounce back Wednesday afternoon against York College.
