Mount Saint Mary's Battles Maritime to a Draw

Mount Saint Mary College and Maritime College played to a 3-3 draw Tuesday night in a wild Skyline Conference matchup at Kaplan Field in Newburgh. The Knights and Privateers traded goals throughout the second half, with Mount Saint Mary scoring the equalizer with just 2:46 remaining to secure a point. The draw marked the second straight season and third time in four years that the two programs have finished level.

Mount Saint Mary opened the scoring in the 29th minute when Guilherme Martins finished a pass from Noah Christian. Maritime answered just before halftime as Charlie Nasta scored in the 44th minute off an assist from Carson Sadler. William Zelaya then put the Knights back ahead in the 51st minute, assisted by Isaac Vargas, before Sadler tied the match at 2-2 in the 63rd minute.

The drama continued late as Maritime took a 3-2 lead in the 86th minute when a defensive clearance deflected into the Mount Saint Mary goal for an own goal. The Knights responded quickly, with Patrick Brady heading home a corner from Isaiah de la Espriella in the 88th minute to level the match for the final time. Maritime finished with a 12-11 advantage in shots and 8-6 edge in shots on goal, while Mount Saint Mary held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks. Aidan Slovensky made three saves for Maritime, while Landon Mabe stopped six shots for the Knights.
