Farmingdale State College men's soccer picked up a 5-3 victory over Baruch College Wednesday afternoon at Rams Field in a high-scoring non-conference matchup. Baruch opened the scoring in the eighth minute when Michael Figueroa converted a rebound, but the Rams answered with two goals in a span of just 60 seconds late in the first half. Christian Russo equalized in the 31st minute before freshman Javier Newman put Farmingdale ahead moments later.
Newman turned in a historic collegiate debut, scoring three goals and adding an assist for seven points. He scored his first goal in the 37th minute after entering the match in the 24th, then added his second early in the second half before completing his hat trick in the 61st minute on a cross from Russo. Lucca Noboa added another goal just under three minutes later, giving Farmingdale a 5-1 advantage.
Baruch scored twice during the final 25 minutes to make things interesting, but Farmingdale held on for the victory. Russo finished with a career-high five points on one goal and three assists, while Newman recorded six shots and three shots on goal. Goalkeeper Vas Dallas made a career-high 12 saves as the Rams improved to 2-4-1 on the season.
