Farmingdale falls to Western Connecticut

Farmingdale State men's soccer faced a difficult test Thursday afternoon at Western Connecticut State, with the Wolves earning a 4-1 victory at Westside Stadium in Danbury. The Rams had a couple of early opportunities, including shots from Josue Corea and Christian Russo, but Western Connecticut quickly established control of the match. Vas Dallas kept Farmingdale within reach during the opening stages, making several saves as the Wolves generated consistent pressure. Western Connecticut eventually broke through in the 25th minute when Juan Gomez Herrera headed home a pass from Nickolas Santana. The Wolves added another goal just before halftime, with Brandon Salguero scoring in the 39th minute to give the hosts a 2-0 advantage at the break.

Western Connecticut continued to apply pressure after halftime and extended its lead in the 58th minute. Esteban Tabares finished a play set up by Lucas Fernandez to make it 3-0, putting Farmingdale in a difficult position with just over 30 minutes remaining. Dallas continued to face a heavy workload in goal, making eight saves over the course of the match. Despite the deficit, the Rams continued to push forward and eventually found a breakthrough of their own in the 78th minute. William Guillen scored his first goal of the young season, cutting the deficit to 3-1 and giving Farmingdale some momentum heading into the final stages.

Farmingdale's comeback hopes were ultimately ended less than nine minutes later when Chace Campbell scored in the 86th minute off an assist from Rodrigo Lancho, restoring Western Connecticut's three-goal advantage. The Wolves finished with a commanding 25-7 edge in shots and put 12 attempts on target compared with two for the Rams. Farmingdale also struggled to generate corner-kick opportunities, finishing with just one compared with 10 for Western Connecticut. Dallas' eight saves were a career high and helped keep the Rams competitive despite the Wolves' sustained offensive pressure. Farmingdale now returns home Sunday to host Eastern Connecticut State at 1 p.m.
